Accessibility

We strive to make the building as accessible as possible, given its listed status. Facilities include:

• A ramp at the front entrance to HLSI which is lit at night;
• Three WCs accessed from the Victoria Hall – includes one disabled-access unisex WC;
• Unisex WC accessed from Members’ Room;
• Unisex WC on first floor, close to classrooms;
• Access to the two classrooms upstairs (Gosling Room and Linden Room) and the Coleridge Room is only by stairs;
• Internet access throughout the building for all users;
• Two kitchen areas with coffee and tea making facilities for members and students.

Fire Safety information

• Fire exit locations:
  • Main entrance onto Pond Square
  • Exit beyond the WCs to the rear of the Victoria Hall (our disabled ramp is located outside the WCs)
  • The external door leading to Swains Lane, found beyond the ground floor kitchen
• The meeting point in case of emergency:
  • Pond Square (opposite HLSI)
• Fire Alarm locations:
  • Main entrance lobby
  • Library
  • Boiler room (to the rear of the library)
  • Inside the side entrance to the basement Archives Room
  • Outside the first floor classrooms
