Performance of all kinds – from opera and dance to the spoken-word theatre– has been a site of fascination for artists and painters for hundreds of years.  Capturing the essence of certain pivotal events, we will examine Mozart’s most popular opera;  the mythical figure of Salome;  Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes; Expressionist theatre; dance performances at the Bauhaus and the stage designs of Kokoschka, Chagal, Hockney and William Kentridge.
