Science Talk: Sir Stamford Raffles

This year marks the bicentenary of the death of Stamford Raffles, founder of Singapore and of the London Zoo.  Although Raffles’s reputation rests largely on his abilities as an administrator, he was a man of very broad scientific interests-a botanist and a zoologist, he was also the first elected president of The Zoological Society.  He is buried in Hendon.

Lester Hillman is an old friend of the Science Group and has given a number of presentations on people and events with local connections to Highgate.
