HLSI Education
Intellectual stimulation and warm companionship
Education is at the heart of our charity’s aims and we are keen to keep building and refreshing the programme. We do not run examination programmes or set written work: homework is all about reading as widely as you wish and extending your knowledge and enthusiasms. Our main focus is on recruiting lively, knowledgeable tutors who can encourage great debate and conversations in our classes.
Our classes range from a two-hour presentation with Q & A to a 10 or 12-week course. We aim to provide as much diversity as possible and to offer a balanced mix of short and longer-term courses. We are always open to suggestions from our students and members and will do our best to accede to requests for new subjects and experiences.
Some points to draw to your attention:
- If you have not done so yet, become a member! If you follow a course for a year, you could save the HLSI membership fee by paying the lower members’ rate. Members also benefit from early enrolment to courses. In addition, as a member you will have access to a wonderful library, free lectures and debates, and the enjoyment of all the periodicals in the Members’ Room. We would love to have you in our community - to chat, to share a coffee or a glass of wine after a lecture
- Members will be prompted to log in at the point of booking a course. This will ensure you get the reduced members’ rate;
- Please think carefully about your personal calendar before you sign up for courses: we cannot provide refunds, other than related to serious sudden medical conditions or similar. In exceptional cases where a refund is made, a £25 administration charge is applied.
