His Honour Peter Rook KC was called to the Bar in 1973, choosing to specialise in criminal law. In the course of his long career he has been Chairman of the Criminal Bar Association, head of his chambers, an Old Bailey judge, a judge sitting in the Court of Appeal and Vice-Chair of the Parole Board.

Throughout this time he has developed a particular interest in sexual offences, both in law and in courtroom practice. He is the co-author of the leading legal textbook on the subject. Several generations of advocates and judges have been trained by him, with special attention given to dealing with vulnerable witnesses.

Have the demands changed in recent decades? Is the relatively small number of successful rape prosecutions cause for concern? Should these cases still be heard by juries? These may well be among the questions Peter Rook will want us to consider.
