Writer and critic Emily Rhodes is the founder of Bookbanks, a new charity which brings books – and conversations about books – to food banks. Bookbanks is currently operating in London and Norfolk and seeking funding to continue its expansion to work with new communities nationwide. Emily will talk to us about how her idea for Bookbanks came about and share some of the remarkable stories she and her volunteers have collected since the venture started.

Emily Rhodes is a writer and critic; her features and reviews have appeared in publications including FT Weekend, the Spectator and the Guardian. She founded Emily’s Walking Book Club over a decade ago, and it continues to meet for popular monthly walks on Hampstead Heath to discuss books, with an online global community of 2,500 members. Emily is a former bookseller, who believes passionately in the power of books to bring people together. In 2023, she founded the charity Bookbanks.
